Pride Men’s Hoop Loses at Albertus Magnus

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Regis College lost to Albertus Magnus College, 94-67, Thursday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball game at the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Center.

Russell Rau (Fitchburg, Mass.) led the Pride with 12 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Dashon Smith Adams (New Haven, Conn.) returned to his hometown and contributed career-high totals of nine points and six rebounds.

Albertus Magnus (5-6, 4-1 GNAC) scored the first seven points of the game, but a traditional three-point play by Justin Evelyn (Uniondale, N.Y.) helped the Pride stay close early in the first half. Regis pulled to within three points at 17-14 on a layup by Tate Pike (Bellingham, Mass.) and a three-pointer from Rau, but the Falcons would start to pull away thanks to a 19-4 scoring run, beginning with a three-pointer by Antonio Bonilla.

Zakaria Latifi (Holliston, Mass.) hit a three-pointer to bring the Pride within 13 points at 43-30, but Jacqual Gertrude answered with his own three-pointer as Albertus Magnus closed out the first half on a 10-4 scoring run. The Falcons maintained their advantage throughout the second half as both teams went deep into their respective benches, with a combined 34 players seeing action during the game.

Bonilla led the Falcons with 16 points, while Justice Washington notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. As a team, Albertus Magnus shot 46.7 percent (35-for-75) from the field and 69.6 percent (16-for-23) from the free throw line, plus the home team won the rebounding battle, 54-44.

Regis College (7-4, 3-1 GNAC) hosts University of Saint Joseph, the top-ranked team in this week's D3Hoops.com Top 25 Poll, Saturday, Jan. 7, beginning at 3 p.m. It will be the first of three straight home games for the Pride.
