WESTON, Mass. – In a close contest, Regis College earned a 72-58 victory over Framingham State University in a non-conference game Tuesday night at Higgins Court.
Regis scored first with a three-pointer from Russell Rau (Westminster, Mass.) just before both teams went point-for-point until Makyle Hayes made way for a three-pointer to bring the Rams to a 9-6 lead. Rau followed with two consecutive three-pointers to increase the Pride advantage. Each team would trade baskets and the lead, but the Pride added pressure to clinch a 36-31 lead into the half.
Regis opened the second half with a 7-0 scoring run taking a 44-31 lead just over two minutes into the half. Gehrig Brynda (Deerfield, Mass.) opened the half with three three-pointers contributing to the lead. Regis extended the lead to 59-39 midway through the frame and were able to hold off a late surge with action from Joshua Saint Jean from the Rams to secure the 72-58 victory.
Brynda led the Pride with 17 points, three rebounds and two assists. Rau coined a double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and two assists, while Jamir Harvey (Robbins, Ill.) finished with 15 points, six rebounds and two steals.
Regis (4-2) is scheduled to face Trinity College on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7:00 p.m.
