WESTON, Mass. – Regis College men's basketball secured a 79-70 victory over Fitchburg State on Saturday in a non-conference matchup at Higgins Court.
Despite the Falcons making the first basket of the game, the Pride immediately added offensive pressure with a layup from Jamir Harvey (Robbins, Ill.) followed by a three-pointer from Gehrig Brynda (Deerfield, Mass.).
Regis continued with a 9-3 scoring run to lead at 19- 11 just before the Falcons earned four consecutive baskets featuring a three-pointer from Nicolas Von Zboray to close within three points. Consistent free throws worked in Fitchburg's favor as the Falcons came within two points of the Pride at 29-27, adding pressure to the Regis defense. The teams eventually went even for a 7-7 scoring run to finish the first half with Regis leading 45-39.
Fitchburg opened the second half with a 9-6 scoring run in effort to catch up to the Pride, however Aamyr Sullivan (Middletown, N.Y.) coined a three-pointer extending the offensive output, pushing the Pride ahead with six points. Both teams went basket for basket until Russell Rau (Westminster, Mass.) started a run with a three-pointer to be followed with two free throws from Harvey to finish with a 79-70 victory for Regis.
Sullivan led the Pride with 24 points shooting 10-for-16 from the field followed by Rau with 22 points, who both combined for 46 of the Pride's 79 points. Harvey earned a double-double contributing 10 points with 10 rebounds while Brynda finished with 11 points, five rebounds, one steal and one assist.
Regis (5-3) is set to travel to face Holy Cross on Dec. 29, starting at 2:00 p.m.
