Regis Rallies Back to Defeat Colby-Sawyer

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College fought back from its deficit to earn a thrilling 77-67 comeback victory over Colby-Sawyer College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball game on Tuesday at Higgins Court.

Despite scoring the first five points of the game thanks to a three-pointer from Gehrig Brynda (Deerfield, Mass.) and a layup from Jamir Harvey (Robbins, Ill.), the Chargers inched past the Pride to eventually take an 11-9 lead featuring a three-pointer from Bryson Jenkins. Three consecutive three-pointers put Regis ahead by seven points, before a layup from Marcus Watts Jr. (Stamford, Conn.) would extend the Pride lead 20-11. The Chargers caught up to the Pride to tie the game at 20 points. Each team went point-for-point, until Colby-Sawyer broke through to lead with one point at 28-27, then extended its lead 34-29 heading into halftime.

Regis quickly cut its deficit to two points early in the second half at 36-34, but a three-pointer from Andrew Blunt, followed by a layup and a free throw, pushed the Chargers back ahead by six. The Pride fought back once again, narrowing the gap to 44-42, but Colby-Sawyer responded with a series of layups to maintain its lead. A key three-pointer brought Regis within striking distance at 48-45, yet the Chargers continued to hold their momentum.

Both teams traded baskets until Regis finally broke through, tying the game at 56-56. From there, the back-and-forth battle continued until the Pride surged ahead at 65-63 and never looked back, closing the game on a strong run to secure a 77-67 victory.

Brynda led the Pride with 18 points and five rebounds, while Harvey contributed 17 points and five rebounds.

Allen Mutuganzi paced the Chargers with 18 points and three rebounds, while Cullum recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Regis (9-15, 4-9 GNAC) will travel to face Johnson & Wales University on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 3:00 p.m., while Colby-Sawyer (5-19, 3-10 GNAC) hosts the University of Saint Joseph at the same time.
