Women’s Lacrosse Drops Non-Conference Contest

FITCHBURG, Mass. – In its final regular season non-conference match of the season, Regis College lost to Fitchburg State, 21-7, Friday night in women's collegiate lacrosse action at Elliot Field.

Kylee Marley (Westerly, R.I.) led the Pride with a season-high four goals, while Abbie Doheny (Lunenburg, Mass.) finished with one goal and one assist. Morgan Pero (Hartford, Vt.) and Isabella Beane (Marlborough, Mass.) scored the other Regis goals, and Grace Heffernan (Winchester, Mass.) made eight saves in net for the Pride.

Pero put Regis on the board 58 seconds into the match with an unassisted goal, but Fitchburg State quickly struck back, taking the lead for good on goals by Brooke Johnson and Abaigeal Gilman 21 seconds apart. The Falcons would open an 8-1 advantage within the first quarter, led by three goals from Julia Miele and two goals by Nicole Orlowski.

Fitchburg State (4-4) would continue to extend its lead in the second quarter, paced by three goals apiece in the period by Cali Laakso and Eva Kozikowski. Doheny grabbed the first draw control of the third quarter, raced down the field, and scored eight seconds into the period, starting a second half in which each team scored six goals.

Miele ended up with four goals and three assists, Kozikowski finished with three goals and five assists, and eight other Falcons picked up at least one point in the match. Francesca Reyes played the first half in net for Fitchburg State, making eight saves while allowing just one goal, with Alyson Cote taking over for the second half and also collecting eight saves.

Regis College (1-6, 1-3 GNAC) remains within conference play the rest of the regular season, starting Wednesday, March 30, at Colby-Sawyer starting at 4 p.m. The Pride will then host Anna Maria during a busy weekend on campus Saturday, April 2, beginning at 3 p.m.
