Men's Volleyball Clinches a Four Set Victory

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Regis powered past Pratt Institute with a 3-1 victory in a non-conference men's volleyball match on Sunday.

After an early attack error gave the Cannoneers the first point, the Pride responded with a dominant 14-4 run to take a 14-5 lead. Despite a pair of service aces and a kill from Max Wang helping Pratt gain some ground, Regis closed the first set with a 5-0 run to secure a 25-12 win.

Pratt briefly led 5-3 in the second set, but a service error and an ace tied it at 5-5. Both teams traded points until Regis broke away with a 12-4 run, fueled by kills from John Nangle (Lowell, Mass.), Robert Burch (Coxsackie, N.Y.), Eric Alteus (Meriden, Conn.), and Aedan Petrocelli (Lincroft, N.J.), sealing the set 25-20.

Regis opened the third set strong with a 5-1 lead, but Pratt fought back with a 10-6 run, ultimately edging out a 25-22 win to force a fourth set.

The Pride dominated the final frame, outscoring Pratt 25-11 with key kills from Andrew Matzouranis (North Andover, Mass.), Adam Bonica (Quincy, Mass.), and Nangle.

Nangle led Regis with 17 kills, while Petrocelli added nine kills and two digs. Tyrell Bucasas (Waialua, Hawaii) tallied 17 assists, followed by Younes Suleiman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 15 assists.

Regis (10-5, 1-2 GNAC) travels to Emerson on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 10 a.m. Pratt (3-5, 0-0) visits Yeshiva on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m.
