Bronxville, N.Y. – The Regis College men's volleyball team opened its busy road weekend with a dominant 3-0 non-conference win over Sarah Lawrence on Friday at the Campbell Sports Center.
Regis set the tone early, taking the first two points of the opening set with kills from Brandon Valdes (Miami, Fla.) and John Nangle (Lowell, Mass.). After a tight start, the Pride pulled away with a 9-2 run to lead 19-10. Regis sealed the set, 25-12, behind kills from Eddie Djatcha (Lowell, Mass.), Jay Bodhidatta (Bangkok, Thailand), Adam Bonica (Quincy, Mass.), and Jalen Watt (South Hadley, Mass.).
Sarah Lawrence held a brief lead in the second set before Regis surged ahead on a Valdes kill and consecutive Gryphon errors. The hosts responded with four unanswered points to tie the set at 14, but a kill from Andrew Matzouranis (North Andover, Mass.) put the Pride back in front. Tied at 18-18, Regis capitalized on service aces, kills, and an opponent error to close out the set, 25-21.
The Pride carried its momentum into the third set, opening with a 9-3 run. After trailing by five, Sarah Lawrence battled back to tie it at 19, but Regis responded with a decisive 4-0 run to regain control and finished off the match with a 25-21 victory.
Valdes led Regis with 11 kills, while Tyrell Bucasas (Waialua, Hawaii) recorded 30 assists and nine digs. Bodhidatta also tallied 11 kills.
Regis (7-4, 1-2 GNAC) continues its weekend road trip on Saturday against Manhattanville at 11:00 a.m., followed by a matchup with Hobart College at 1:00 p.m.
