Women’s Lacrosse Cruises in GNAC Opener

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College took the early advantage and maintained its offensive momentum through most of the match, defeating Mitchell College, 20-3, Wednesday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse match at Regis Stadium.

The Pride scored 28 seconds into the match on a free position opportunity by Kylee Marley (Westerly, R.I.), who then assisted on a goal by Madeline Conover (West Newbury, Mass.) 28 seconds later. Just 15 seconds after that, Hope Alto (Boston, Mass.) earned her first goal of the match as Regis would eventually score 11 goals in the first quarter.

Mitchell was able to hold the Pride scoreless in the second quarter while Lauren Cordero scored twice for the Mariners to bring the visitors a little closer at halftime, 11-2. Alto scored two goals and Marley connected on another free position attempt to extend the Regis lead to 12 goals at 14-2 before Cordero completed her hat trick late in the third quarter.

Regis scored six goals in the fourth quarter, including two goals apiece by Conover and Marley. Audrey Mason (West Springfield, Mass.) completed her first career hat trick with a goal 48 seconds into the period off an assist from Serenity Ayala (North Brookfield, Mass.), who closed out the scoring with her own tally late in the quarter.

Conover and Marley led the Pride with five goals and one assist each, while Alto and Mason finished with three goals and eight draw controls apiece. Maddey Strickland (Hopkinton, Mass.) earned one goal, three assists, three groundballs, and two draw controls, Ayala led the Pride defense with five groundballs and three caused turnovers, and Vanessa Kozinski (Merrimack, N.H.) scored her first career goal during the match.

Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Allayna Martone (Elkridge, Md.) each played one half and combined for three saves, while Mitchell goalie Hannah Gomes collected five saves for the Mariners. Cordero scored all three Mitchell goals plus earned four groundballs, and Jessica Krupnikoff led the Mariners with four draw controls.

Regis College (5-1, 1-0 GNAC) heads to New Haven, Conn., to face Albertus Magnus Saturday, March 23, starting at 12 p.m. Mitchell College (0-2, 0-1 GNAC) hosts University of Saint Joseph Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
