WINTHROP, Mass. – For the third consecutive week, the fourth time within the last five weeks, and the sixth occasion overall, Regis College freshman guard Pam Gonzalez (Revere, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.
Gonzalez averaged 10.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per game last week as the Pride extended their conference winning streak to five game with consecutive home victories. Last Wednesday against Lasell, she notched her third double-double of the season, scoring 12 points and grabbing 15 rebounds, tying her season high, plus she dished out five assists and blocked one shot.
Saturday, she overcame a slow start personally, helping the Pride pull away from Saint Joseph in the second half. Gonzalez scored eight points, all after halftime, to go along with five rebounds, two assists, and three steals in Regis' 68-31 victory over the Blue Jays, the eighth time this season the Pride have held their opponents under 50 points.
For the season, Gonzalez is averaging 12.7 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.6 steals per game. She is sixth in the league and 92nd in Division III in steals per game, ninth in the GNAC in both rebounds and assists per game, and 15th in the conference in points per game.
Since the start of 2020, Gonzalez has earned GNAC Rookie of the Week honors every week except for one, adding those to earlier awards Nov. 25 and Dec. 9 of 2019.
Regis, 11-9 overall including 5-1 in the GNAC to currently sit in a tie for second place in the league standings, hosts Colby-Sawyer College Tuesday, Feb. 4, starting at 7 p.m. The Chargers are 13-6 overall, including 3-3 within the league, and feature this week's GNAC Player of the Week Lexie Hamilton after she averaged 16.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 9.5 assists per game last week.
