WESTON, Mass. – Regis College freshman guard Pam Gonzalez (Revere, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week Monday after helping the Pride open their home schedule with two victories in the span of four days.
Tuesday, she added to her honor roll, receiving Rookie of the Week recognition from the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA). Gonzalez is the first Regis player to receive a NEWBA weekly award since Brittany Stone earned NEWBA Player of the Week honors Feb. 12, 2018.
For the week, Gonzalez averaged 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 5.0 steals per game. She hit 56.3 percent (9-of-16) of her field goal attempts, including 5-of-8 from behind the three-point line, and 75 percent (6-of-8) of her free throw opportunities.
In the home opener against Fisher Wednesday, Gonzalez led the Pride with 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field, including a perfect 3-of-3 performance from long distance. She also pulled down eight rebounds, collected five steals, and dished out three assists without committing a turnover.
Saturday against WPI, Gonzalez hit two key three-pointers, the first starting a 7-1 Regis scoring run in the second quarter and the second breaking a Pride cold streak from the field in the third quarter. She finished with 11 points, five rebounds, two assists, and five steals as Regis became the first team this season to score at least 50 points against WPI while holding the Engineers to 42 points in part by forcing 21 turnovers.
For the season, Gonzalez is second on the team in scoring at 11.5 points per game, plus she leads the team with 7.2 rebounds and 2.8 steals per contest. Gonzalez earns the first GNAC weekly award of the season for the Pride.
Regis (3-4) brings a three-game winning streak into a road contest at Fitchburg State Tuesday, Nov. 26, with a 5 p.m. tip-off. The Falcons will be looking to snap a two-game losing streak after falling to Albertus Magnus Saturday.
