WESTON, Mass. - Led by a career-high 20 kills from junior Joseph Perez (Miami, Fla.), Regis College swept Elms College, 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-15), Tuesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's volleyball match at Higgins Court.

Perez, earning the most kills in a three-set match in program history, collected nine kills while making just one attack error in the first set for a .421 hitting percentage, followed by five kills in the second set and six kills in the third set. Tyrell Bucasas (Waialua, Hawaii) tied his career high with 44 assists, plus he collected 13 digs for his second double-double of the season.

John Nangle (Lowell, Mass.) reached double figures in kills for the first time in his career with 11 kills, while Francesco Buanne (Caserta, Italy) finished with nine kills on a .533 hitting percentage. Defensively, Marcello Cappuccio (Scotch Plains, N.J.) led the Pride with 16 digs, and Alessandro DiPaola (Newington, Conn.) contributed a career-high 12 digs.

The first set featured 11 ties and four lead changes as the two teams battled throughout the set, with Elms eventually pulling ahead 15-12. Consecutive kills by Perez helped Regis draw back into a tie, and the Pride would take the lead for good on a block by Bucasas and Buanne. Regis scored the final four points of the opening set thanks to one kill each from Perez and Nangle as well as two blocks by Nangle and Robert Burch (Coxsackie, N.Y.).

The second set was just as close with 11 ties and five lead changes, but it did not start out that way as Elms scored the first six points of the set, including a kill and a solo block by Rafa Artero. After a block by Artero and Moose Perry gave the Blazers an 8-3 advantage, Regis put together a 7-1 scoring run to pull ahead, 10-9, before Elms retook the lead on kills by Cecil Villa and Lewis Torres.

After a kill by Perry gave Elms a two-point lead later in the set, Perez notched three kills and Bucasas earned a service ace to put the Pride on top, 22-20. The Blazers took advantage of four Regis errors to pull into a 24-24 tie and extend the set, but the Pride clinched the second set on consecutive kills by Buanne.

Jairam Rodriguez notched a kill on the first point of the third set, but Regis quickly took control with three straight points on kills by Perez and Burch as well as a service ace from Bucasas. The Pride scored five straight points midway through the set to increase their lead to 14-6, and Regis would eventually close out the set and the match on a solo block by Bucasas and a kill from Perez.

Rodriguez led the Blazers with eight kills and two service aces, while Perry also finished with eight kills and Torres dished out 22 assists. Defensively, Artero paced the team at the net with four total blocks, and Collin Liedke, fourth in Division III in digs per set entering the match, led all players with 24 digs, including 10 digs in the second set and nine digs in the third set.
