Men's Volleyball Extends Winning Streak

WESTON, Mass. – A late rally in the third set allowed Regis College to extend the contest, earning a 3-2 victory over SUNY Potsdam, with scores of 24-26, 20-25, 30-28, 25-23, and 15-11 Friday night in a non-conference men's collegiate volleyball match at Higgins Court.

Five Regis players finished with 10 or more kills, led by Brandon Valdes (Miami, Fla.) with 18. In addition, Valdes earned 12 digs, notching a double-double. Tyrell Bucasas (Waialua, Hawaii) finished with 52 assists, while Jay Bodhidatta (Bangkok, Thailand) contributed 21 digs. John Nangle (Lowell, Mass.) contributed 10 kills and five digs for the Pride.

REGIS 3, SUNY Potsdam 2:

After coming up short in the first two sets, Regis gained offensive momentum, opening the third set with a 9-7 scoring run. Multiple kills from Matt Kilinski, and Duncan Tehagen along with attack and service errors would give the Bears a 17-12 lead. Regis battled back with a 6-1 run to tie the set at 18 points. Both teams went point for point until a kill from Eddie Djatcha (Lowell, Mass.) and an attack error from the Bears would clinch a 30-28 victory for the Pride.

Both teams went point for point, until Regis broke through after a kill from the Bears would tie the set at 15 points. Regis capitalized with a 6-2 advantage to increase its lead by four points. Despite a rally from the Bears to come within one point of the Pride, Regis pulled away with a 25-23 victory thanks to a service error from the Bears, followed by a kill from Valdes.

After leading at 4-1 in the start of the fifth set, SUNY Poly increased its output to tie the set at four points, and then again at five. The Pride responded with a 7-3 scoring run, leading 12-8. Regis collected its final three points with two kills from Adam Bonica (Quincy, Mass.) and Jalen Watt (South Hadley, Mass.), to finish the fifth and final set at 15-11.

Regis (4-3, 0-1 GNAC) is set to travel to face Elms College on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 7:00 p.m.

SUNY Potsdam (3-2, 0-0 NEVC)  is scheduled to travel to Rivier University on Saturday, Feb. 1, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
