Men's Volleyball Splits Road Tri-Match

BOSTON - Regis College men's volleyball team secured a three-set victory over Curry College, after dropping to Emerson in five sets at the Bobbi Brown and Steven Plofker Gym on Saturday.

EMERSON 3, REGIS 2:

Regis opened the first set with a 4-2 lead before the Lions battled back to tie it at 5-5. Both teams remained within two points of each other until the Pride broke through with a 6-2 run, fueled by kills from Jalen Watt (South Hadley, Mass.), John Nangle (Lowell, Mass.), and Eddie Djatcha (Lowell, Mass.), to take a 20-14 lead. Despite multiple errors allowing Emerson to close the gap, Regis held on to secure a 25-18 victory.

Emerson responded in the second set, jumping out to a 5-1 lead and maintaining momentum. Regis fought back, cutting the deficit to 12-11 after a Watt kill, but the teams traded points until a 5-0 Lions run extended their lead to 22-15. Emerson stayed in control, closing out the set with a 25-20 win.

The Lions carried that energy into the third set, outscoring Regis 24-17 to take a 2-1 match lead. However, the Pride bounced back in the fourth set despite trailing for much of the frame. Regis tied the score at 15-15 and then capitalized on an attack error and two kills to pull ahead 18-15. Emerson responded with short bursts to even the score at 19, 21, and eventually 24, but Regis capitalized on late attack errors to edge out a 26-24 victory and force a decisive fifth set.

The final set remained tightly contested, with both teams trading points until a kill and a service ace sealed a 16-14 win for Emerson.

Watt led the Pride with 15 kills and 7 digs followed by Brandon Valdes (Miami, Fla.) and Nangle with 11 kills apiece.

REGIS 3, CURRY 0:

The Pride stormed out to a commanding 10-1 lead in the first set, fueled by kills from Watt, Nangle, Valdes, and Adam Bonica (Quincy, Mass.), along with key service aces. Though Curry capitalized on errors and added a few kills, Regis sealed the set with a 6-1 run, winning 25-13.

The second set was tight early, with both teams trading points until a Bonica kill and a Curry attack error broke an 11-11 tie. Regis then eventually surged ahead with a 7-1 run to lead 20-13. Despite an even exchange of points down the stretch, the Pride closed out the set 25-18.

Curry opened the third set with a 3-1 edge, but Regis responded with a 6-1 run to take control. The Colonels kept within two points until the Pride extended its lead to 13-7. Another 6-1 stretch pushed the advantage to 19-8, and Regis wrapped up the sweep with a 25-15 victory.

Bonica led the Pride in the second set with 15 kills followed by Watt with 11. Tyrell Bucasas (Waialua, Hawaii.) finished with 29 assists.

Regis (11-6, 1-3 GNAC) is set to host Lasell University on Tuesday, March 4 at 7:00 p.m.
