WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's volleyball team defeated Dean College, 3-0 (25-7, 25-20, 25-23), Thursday night in a non-conference men's collegiate volleyball match at Higgins Court.

Most of the active roster saw action for the Pride, as 14 different players entered at least one set. Inelson Alves (Brockton, Mass.) finished with seven kills, four digs, and two total blocks, while Matt Ferrara (Haverhill, Mass.) earned six kills and three service aces in the first set, Gueincy Clodomir (Pembroke Park, Fla.) also finished with six kills, and Fernando Gomez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) added three service aces. Defensively, Zabdiel Frias (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) led all players with 12 digs.

After committing attack errors on each of the first two points of the match, Regis rattled off a 15-2 scoring run, led by Ferrara with four kills and three service aces. The Pride continued to pressure the Bulldogs, closing out the first set with an 8-1 scoring run, including two more kills by Ferrara.

Dean (1-14) took an early two-point lead in the second set thanks in part to a kill and a block assist by Tim Williamson. Regis put together a 6-2 scoring run to pull ahead, 11-9, but Dean responded with five unanswered points, featuring a service ace by Chadd Pelletier and a block by Williamson and Aaron Brody, to retake the lead at 14-11.

The Pride scored the next four points to regain control of the set, 15-14, and then Gomez collected a kill and two service aces later in the set to extend the advantage to 23-18. Regis closed out the second set on a kill by Alves and a service ace from Nathan Asstafan (Woonsocket, R.I.).

Mistakes by the Pride allowed the Bulldogs to open a three-point advantage in the third set, with a block by Jaren Brooks and Tywan Jones giving the visitors an 8-5 lead. Regis put together an 11-2 scoring run, capped by a block assist and a kill by Clodomir, but Dean fought back, closing its deficit to three at 19-16.

Regis scored three straight points to double its lead, but the Bulldogs again roared back, scoring six of the next seven points, featuring consecutive service aces by Ampherny Garcia, to close to within one at 23-22. The Pride finally closed out the set and the match on kills by Shawn Gamble (Cranston, R.I.) and Jack Wizboski (Townsend, Mass.).

Brooks and John Kauffman each collected five kills for the Bulldogs, while Pelletier finished with eight assists, two service aces, and eight digs. Dean returns to action this Saturday, March 23, for a tri-match at Endicott College that also includes Lesley University.

The Pride showed significant improvement in their service game after committing 15 service errors while earning only four aces Tuesday night against Wentworth. For the third time this season, Regis earned more service aces than service errors, accumulating 12 aces while committing just 11 errors.

Regis (8-10) returns to GNAC play this weekend, heading to Boston Saturday, March 23, for a tri-match at Emmanuel College. The Pride face the host Saints at 12 p.m., followed by a neutral-site conference contest against Colby-Sawyer at 2 p.m.
