Ryan Kim Named GNAC Men’s Swim & Dive Rookie of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. - After a strong start to his first season of collegiate competition, first-year swimmer Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week, announced Tuesday, Oct. 25, by the league office.

In the season-opening dual meet against University of Saint Joseph, Kim swam the second leg of the victorious 200 medley relay, and then he won the 50 breaststroke in 29.39 seconds and the 100 individual medley in 1:00.83, plus he finished second in the 100 breaststroke by just 6/100ths of a second with a time of 1:03.69.  At the Roger Williams Invitational the following week, Kim picked up points for the Pride with an eighth place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:21.61) and a fifth place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.89). 

Last Saturday in a double-dual meet against Bridgewater State and Eastern Connecticut State, Kim won the 200 breaststroke by 4.7 seconds with a time of 2:20.48, plus he finished second in the 200 individual medley by just a quarter of a second with a time of 2:09.16. He is now tied for third on the Regis all-time top times list in the 200 breaststroke as well as fifth in the 200 individual medley.

"I am so excited for Ryan. He is well-deserving of this honor. Ryan works hard every day at practice," Regis head swimming and diving coach Diana Matthews said.

The Regis College swimming and diving team is scheduled to travel to Gordon College to face the Fighting Scots and Elms College Friday, Oct. 28, starting at 6 p.m.
