Pride Women Defeat Elms in Meet at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – In a double-dual meet for the women, Regis College defeated Elms College, 141-87, but lost to host Gordon College, 147-101, while the Pride men fell to the Fighting Scots, 117-82, Friday night at the Bennett Center.

Kali Taylor (Brattleboro, Vt.) won three individual events for the second straight week, first winning the 200 freestyle by 6/100ths of a second with a season-best time of 2:07.68. The 100 freestyle was even closer as Taylor out-touched Gordon's Lydia Shustack by 1/100th of a second with a time of 58.23 seconds. Taylor then held on to win the 500 freestyle by a quarter of a second with a mark of 5:53.46.

Riley Aptt (Woburn, Mass.) picked up the other two overall event victories for the Regis women, starting with a win in the 50 backstroke by over three seconds in 32.76 seconds. After finishing second overall in the 200 individual medley in 2:37.95, Aptt posted another three-second victory in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:10.66.

The Pride were able to defeat the Blazers thanks in part to back-to-back 2-3 overall finishes, beginning in the 50 breaststroke with Sophia Nylin (Malden, Mass.) placing second in 37.69 seconds followed by Abby Parker (Peru, Mass.) in third place in 38.56 seconds. Nylin also placed second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:24.95.

In the 100 butterfly, Ava Hubster (Crown Point, Ind.) finished second in 1:14.39, ahead of Vera Rivard (Springfield, N.H.) in third place in 1:21.86. Hubster also scored significant points for the Pride by finishing third overall in both the 200 individual medley in 2:42.21 and the 500 freestyle in 6:25.37.

Cody Werner (Bettendorf, Iowa) led the Regis men with three event victories, starting with a solid victory in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.47 seconds. He then cruised to victory in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.33, followed by a win in the 50 butterfly in 25.79 seconds.

Aryaman Nagaraj (Watertown, Mass.) picked up two event victories, touching the wall first in the 200 freestyle in 2:00.25 and the 100 freestyle in 53.93 seconds. Nagaraj also placed second in the 50 freestyle in 25.32 seconds, while Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.) finished second in the 50 breaststroke in 30.94 seconds, the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.43, and the 100 individual medley in 1:04.42.

The Regis College swimming and diving team heads to New Hampshire to face Plymouth State University next Friday, Nov. 1, starting at 4 p.m.
