WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Led by a sterling debut for Kali Taylor (Brattleboro, Vt.), the Regis College women defeated UMass Dartmouth, 167-56, Saturday afternoon during a collegiate swimming meet hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University at the ECSU Sports Center.
Taylor won three individual events, first touching the wall four seconds before her nearest competitor in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:08.63. She then won the 100 freestyle by almost one full second with a time of 59.33 seconds, and she followed that with an 11-second victory in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:56.90.
Ava Hubster (Crown Point, Ind.) picked up the other overall event victory for the Regis women, as she won the 1000 freestyle by exactly 13 seconds with a time of 12:57.41. She also finished second overall in the 50 butterfly in 33.17 seconds and third overall in the 100 butterfly in 1:17.44.
Riley Aptt (Woburn, Mass.) finished second overall in three events: the 50 backstroke in 32.14 seconds, the 100 butterfly in 1:13.27, and the 100 backstroke in 1:10.46. Olivia Luhnau (Castle Rock, Colo.) ended up second overall in the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.77 and third overall in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.81.
The lone event victory for the Regis men came courtesy of Cody Werner (Bettendorf, Iowa) in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:11.22. Werner also finished second in the 50 butterfly by 0.27 seconds with a time of 25.94 seconds and third in the 100 butterfly in 57.48 seconds.
In other events, Aryaman Nagaraj (Watertown, Mass.) finished second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:58.89, and Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.) touched the wall second in the 50 backstroke with a time of 29.69 seconds.
Eastern Connecticut State won 10 of 14 events on the women's side and 13 of 14 events on the men's side as the Warriors defeated the Pride in both dual meets, 175-85 for the women and 201-40 for the men.
The Regis College swimming and diving team heads to Gordon College Friday, Oct. 25, for a meet involving the host Fighting Scots and Elms College starting at 5 p.m.
