Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving Both Finish Second at GNAC Championships

BOSTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) men's and women's swimming and diving teams both finished the Great Northeast Athletic Conference championships in second place on Sunday at the Holmes Sports Center Natatorium at Simmons College.

The Pride landed eight swimmers and diver Elisabeth McQuaid (Marlborough, Mass.) on the men's and women's all-conference teams for winning events at the two-day competition.

Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.) was the Pride's first swimmer to land atop the podium on the day, winning the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.65.

Senior Nick Rainville (Reading, Mass.) shined for the Pride for the second consecutive day, closing out the championships with wins in the 100 yard freestyle and 200 yard butterfly. Rainville broke GNAC records in both races, and also a Regis program record in the 100 free with a time of 46.72. In all, Rainville won all four of his individual events on the weekend, setting GNAC records in three.

Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.) closed out the day for the Pride by winning the 50 yard backstroke. Her winning time was 28.33.

McQuaid, Higgins, Rainville and Leonard were joined by Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.), Ashlyn DeRoche (North Reading, Mass.), Diego Colindres (Newton, Mass.), Joshua Unas (Santa Clarita, Calif.) and Lawrence Reynolds (Hyde Park, Mass.) on the GNAC All-Conference teams as winners of events this weekend.

The Pride will return to the pool again at Simmons College on January 13 when the Pride takes on the host Sharks and Colby-Sawyer at the Holmes Sports Center Natatorium. The first events of the day are slated for 11:00 a.m.
