HENNICKER, N.H. – Regis clinched an early lead and never looked back as the Pride swept New England College, 86-59 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball game at Bridges Gymnasium.
The Pride came out strong offensively, matching their opponents with 13 total points in the first three minutes. Regis maintained its momentum, adding five more points to build an eight-point advantage a quarter of the way through the first half. After a brief scoring drought, Jamir Harvey (Robbins, Ill.) extended the lead to double digits with a pair of free throws, adding offensive insurance for the Pride. Despite a layup from Ryan Cuvier, Regis remained in control thanks to a balanced scoring run from Aamyr Sullivan (Middletown, N.Y.), Russell Rau (Westminster, Mass.), and Harvey.
The Pilgrims struggled offensively, going over six minutes without a field goal before senior guard Ashton Ventola finally got on the board with two free throws. By halftime, Regis had built a commanding 20-point lead, at 41-21.
The Pride maintained its dominant lead, opening the second half with a three-pointer from Sullivan, followed by a three-pointer from Harvey. Regis never wavered, continuing with its offensive output, to ultimately finish with a 86-59 final.
Harvey led the Pride with 18 points, five rebounds and three assists while Sullivan collected 17 points, seven assists, three rebounds and two steals, while shooting 5-for-8 from the three point arc. Rau contributed 14 points with 11 rebounds for the Pride, while Gehrig Brynda (Deerfield, Mass.) earned 12 points and two rebounds.
Regis (8-12, 3-6 GNAC) is set to travel to face Rivier University on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 2:00 p.m.
New England College (3-17, 1-8 GNAC) will travel to Mitchell College on Saturday, Feb. 8, with a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.
