Regis Men's Hoop Loses to Norwich

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Regis College could not pull away from Norwich University, as the Cadets defeated the Pride, 64-60, Tuesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball game at Andrews Gymnasium.

Russell Rau (Westminster, Mass.) scored 28 points on three three-pointers, including 7-for-9 free throw shooting, and nine made baskets from the field. Rau also collected ten rebounds. Aamyr Sullivan (Middletown, N.Y.) contributed 14 points, shooting at 57 percent from the field at 4-for-7, while making two three-pointers. Tate Pike (Bellingham, Mass.) added 10 points with four rebounds and five assists.

Rau scored the first three points of the game just before a jumper from Sharif Sharif to bring the Cadets within one point of the Pride. Pike extended Regis's output early to add a three-point shot just before a layup from Marcel Longmire II (Valejo, Calif.) extended the lead at eight points. The Pride continued with a 7-4 scoring run thanks to jumpers from Dashon Smith Adams (New Haven, Conn.), Rau, capped by two free throws and a three-pointer from Sullivan. The Cadets went on an 8-1 scoring run to tie the contest at 24 points. Regis would score the next five baskets to lead 31-24, into halftime.

The Cadets extended its offensive output early in the second half to tie the game at 33 points. Both teams would tie six more times in the second half before the Cadets were able to clinch the lead at 57 points and not look back, eventually pulling away with a slim 64-60 victory.

Jalen Olivero led the Cadets with 21 points and four rebounds while Charles Nogard contributed 20 points with four rebounds.

Regis (5-11, 0-5 GNAC) is scheduled to host University of Saint Joseph's on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 3: 00 p.m. Norwich (12-4, 3-2 GNAC) will travel to face Dean on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 3:00 p.m.
