Pride Men's Basketball Loses to Monks

Standish, Maine – Saint Joseph's College took early control and defeated Regis College, 90-59, Tuesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball game at Mike McDevitt Court.

The Monks got on the board first with a jumper from Wani Donato to take a 3-0 lead. Regis quickly responded, with Gehrig Brynda (Deerfield, Mass.) converting a layup and Russell Rau (Westminster, Mass.) adding a jumper to put the Pride ahead, 5-3. After the teams traded baskets to knot the score at 5, Saint Joseph's went on a 7-2 run, taking control of the game.

The Monks continued to apply pressure, with three-pointers from Silvano Ismail, Braden Camire, and Remijo Wani. After sinking two free throws, the Monks took a 45-28 lead heading into the second half, despite a late three-pointer from Rau.

The second half saw both teams trading baskets early, until Wani's three-pointer pushed the Monks' lead even further. Ismail and Camire each hit a three, extending the lead to 20 points. Regis fought back with a 7-0 run, fueled by four free throws and a layup from Rau, along with a layup from Aamyr Sullivan (Middletown, N.Y.). However, Saint Joseph's regained control and cruised to a 90-59 win.

Rau led the Pride with 21 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists, while Sullivan added 10 points, three rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

For Saint Joseph's, Ismail led the way with 21 points and nine rebounds, while Wani contributed 18 points and five rebounds.

Regis (5-8, 0-2 GNAC) will return home to host Anna Maria College on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 1:00 p.m. Saint Joseph's College (9-4, 1-1 GNAC) will travel to face Colby-Sawyer on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 3:00 p.m.
