Men's Hoop Drops Conference Contest

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College lost to Dean College, 79-67, Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's collegiate basketball game at Higgins Court.

Despite opening the contest with a three-pointer from Gehrig Brynda (Deerfield, Mass.), the Bulldogs took offensive control, going on a 10-0 scoring run increasing its advantage to 21. The Pride responded with a 2-1 run featuring two three-pointers from Dan Grasso (Norwood, Mass.). Regis would then collect 17 points in effort to catch up to the Bulldogs, however Dean was able to extend its offensive output to lead 33-26 at halftime.

Regis opened the second half with a pair of layups to close within three points of Dean. Two free throws by Frankie Idlett would start a 5-2 run increasing momentum for the Bulldogs extending their lead by nine. Both teams went point for point until a 16-4 scoring run for the Bulldogs added insurance to lead by 18 points at 72-54.

Russell Rau (Westminster, Mass.) coined a three-pointer followed by a layup from Aamyr Sullivan (Middletown, N.Y.) however that wasn't enough as Dean eventually pulled away with a 79-69 victory.

Rau led the Pride with 19 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and one steal, while Sullivan contributed 16 points, one rebound and five assists.

Regis (5-7, 0-1 GNAC) is scheduled to travel to face Saint Joseph's College on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 7:30 p.m. Dean (8-2, 1-0 GNAC) is scheduled to host Albertus Magnus College on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 7:00 p.m.
