Men’s Hoop Loses GNAC Road Contest

NEWTON, Mass. – Regis College lost to Lasell University, 99-76, Wednesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's basketball game at the Lasell Athletic Center.

Devante Thompson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) shot 8-of-14 from the field, including three made three-pointers, to lead the Pride with 19 points. Cam Wilkins (Taunton, Mass.) scored 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field, Juvens Dalger (Oakland Park, Fla.) finished with 13 points and nine rebounds, and Marc Trinidad (Bronx, N.Y.) added 11 points and nine rebounds.

Lasell took control right away, opening a 14-4 lead within the first five minutes of the contest. The Lasers put together a 9-2 scoring run later in the half to extend their lead to 40-22, and then a three-pointer from EJ Day in the final minute of the first half allowed Lasell to go into halftime with a 48-32 advantage.

Day opened the second half with consecutive three-pointers as the Lasers scored the first 13 points after halftime. A layup by Day seven minutes into the half extended the Lasell lead to its largest of the night at 30 points (67-37), and the Pride did not get any closer than 17 points behind at any point the rest of the way.

Day shot 12-of-16 from the field, including 5-of-7 from behind the three-point line, and 16-of-20 from the free throw line as he finished with 45 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Jonathan Friberg hit 8-of-11 field goal attempts to end up with 18 points and eight rebounds, Kevin Vanderhorst notched a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Kevin Nunez added 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots.

As a team, Lasell shot 62.7 percent (37-of-59) from the field, including 6-of-13 from behind the three-point line, and 63.3 percent (19-of-30) from the free throw line. The Lasers also dominated the boards, outrebounding the Pride 46-31.

The Pride shot 44.3 percent (31-of-70) from the field, including 6-of-20 from behind the three-point line, but just 40 percent (8-of-20) from the free throw line. Regis committed only 11 turnovers and scored 16 points off 14 Lasell turnovers.

Regis (6-12, 2-3 GNAC) looks to get back on the winning track when it hosts Emmanuel College Saturday, Feb. 1, starting at 2 p.m. Before the game, seniors Josh Germain (Pembroke Pines, Fla.), Gibou Njie (Miramar, Fla.) and Dimitri Rosa (Tiverton, R.I.) will be honored in Senior Day ceremonies.
