WESTON, Mass. – Regis College lost to Anna Maria College, 88-63, Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's basketball game at Higgins Court.
Marc Trinidad (Bronx, N.Y.) led the Pride with 17 points on 8-of-14 field goal shooting, plus he pulled down nine rebounds and dished out three assists. Juvens Dalger (Oakland Park, Fla.) notched his third double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Dimitri Rosa (Tiverton, R.I.) hit three three-pointers in the first half to finish with nine points.
Two of Rosa's three-pointers came in the first 2:11 of the game as the Pride took an 8-4 lead before consecutive layups by Mike Rapoza tied the game at 8-8. Regis put together a 7-2 scoring run to take its biggest lead of the game at 15-10, but Anna Maria quickly answered, tying the game at 19-19 on a three-pointer by Jakai Alexandre.
After a layup by Trinidad, the AMCATS took the lead for good on a three-pointer by Bobby Perette, outscoring the Pride 19-8 over the final 7:11 of the first half. Anna Maria closed the first half with a 12-5 scoring run over the last four minutes, starting with two more Perette three-pointers and capped by a layup from Ralph Grasso Jr. after Perette committed a steal as time would down in the half.
Ahead 40-31 at halftime, Anna Maria increased its lead as Rapoza scored the AMCATS' first eight points of the second half, featuring two traditional three-point plays. Perette connected on three more three-pointers over a two-minute span as the AMCATS continued to pull away, going ahead 68-47 midway through the half.
Regis made one final push, going on a 10-2 scoring run that included two three-pointers from Dalger and one from Zak Latifi (Holliston, Mass.). Anna Maria put the game away by scoring 14 straight points, led by four three-pointers from Grasso Jr.
Rapoza shot 8-of-14 from the field as he finished with 20 points, 15 rebounds, and four blocked shots. Perette led the AMCATS with 25 points thanks to seven made three-pointers, while Grasso Jr. ended up with 18 points and Kennedy Minix-Rogers contributed 10 points, six rebounds, and eight assists.
Anna Maria shot 49.3 percent (34-of-69) from the field, including 12-of-23 from behind the three-point line, and a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line. The AMCATS enjoyed a slight rebounding edge, 40-38, including 15 offensive boards that led to 26 second chance points.
As a team, the Pride shot 38.2 percent (26-of-68) from the field, including 7-of-27 from behind the three-point line. Regis committed 15 turnovers that led to 19 Anna Maria points while it scored 11 points off 12 AMCAT turnovers.
Anna Maria (6-11, 3-1 GNAC) hosts Emmanuel College Wednesday, Jan. 29, starting at 6 p.m.
Regis (6-11, 2-2 GNAC) heads to Newton for a conference matchup against Lasell University Wednesday, Jan. 29, beginning at 7 p.m. in a rematch of a 95-91 Pride victory on Jan. 15 in a non-conference game. The Pride return to Higgins Court next Saturday, Feb. 1, to face Emmanuel College starting at 2 p.m., with a Senior Day presentation scheduled to take place before the game.
