Wedderburn Goes For Career High, Pride Takes Down Rivier

WESTON, Mass. – Shaun Wedderburn (Bronx, N.Y.) registered his first double double with a career-high 21 points and 10 rebounds and the Regis (Mass.) men's basketball used a big second half run to take down a scrappy Rivier team 87-70, Saturday in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Higgins Court.

Tristian Givens (Windsor, Conn.) had a monster game for the Raiders whose play was not indicative of their now 1-10 (0-3 GNAC) record. Givens, who hit eight of first 10 shots finished with a game-high 32 points on 11-19 shooting. Issaiah Chappelle (Concord, N.H.) scored 13 points and Ian Wade (Windsor Locks, Conn.) pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

After leading by only five points at the break, Regis (5-6, 2-1 GNAC) outscored the Raiders by 12 in the second half extending the lead to as many as 20 points. Rivier went cold from the field midway through the period, going without a field goal for 9:21 while the Pride went on a 19-2 run to take a 75-55 lead with 5:05 to play and just about sealing the win.

Regis opened up the game on an 8-2 run after a Wedderburn layup then later pushed the lead to 13 points after Jordan Seldon's (Dorchester, Mass.) bucket put the Pride up 29-16 with 8:19 to play in the period.

The Raiders finally got it going and did so in a hurry, reeling off nine straight points to shave the Pride lead to only four points. Givens and Chappelle accounted for all the points in the run to put the scoreline at 29-25 with 6:45 remaining in the half.

Regis recovered and pushed the lead back up to eight on a Seldon layup and the teams entered halftime with the Pride leading 43-38.

Regis next returns to action Tuesday, Jan. 9 at Emmanuel. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. Rivier hosts Castleton the same day also with a 7:00 p.m. start time.
