WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's basketball team has been named the No. 5 seed in the upcoming New England Collegiate Conference Men's Basketball Tournament, it was announced on Saturday night. The Pride will travel to No. 4 seed Southern Vermont College on Tuesday night for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
This marks the third time this season that these two teams with meet, with each squad taking care of business at home. Regis picked up a 71-62 win over the Mountaineers on January 18 in Weston, Mass. and SVC returned the favor on February 12 with a 62-59 win over the Pride in Vermont.
Osanto Marc Jr. (Kissimmee, Fla.) has played well against the Mountaineers, averaging 17.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in the two matchups this year. Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass.) is averaging 16.5 points per game against SVC, and rookie Sam Jean-Gilles (Melrose, Mass.) is averaging 15.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in the two games, including a career high 23 points and 13 rebounds in the January 18 win.
Southern Vermont's Antoine White (Germantown, Md.) scored 17 points and added six rebounds and six assists in the win for the Mountaineers on February 12. Dolapo Olugbile (Laurel, Md.) had 13 points in the two teams' first meeting and then grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds in SVC's win over the Pride.
In the other NECC First Round matchup, No. 6 Daniel Webster College travels to Becker College on Tuesday night. The Eagles and Hawks split their matchup this season with Daniel Webster dropping the regular season finale to Becker, 65-55.
Elms College and Mitchell College both finished 12-4 in the NECC regular season and the Blazers were awarded the No. 1 seed over the Mariners in a tie-break. Elms will host the final two rounds of the NECC Playoffs on Friday and Saturday in Chicopee, Mass.
