WESTON, Mass. – Regis College men's basketball coach Nathan Hager has been named the 2013 New England Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the league offices. Three members of the Pride were also named to the All-NECC Teams as Osanto Marc (Kissimmee, Fla.) was a Second Team selection and Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass.) and Carlos Bermudez-Glean (Boston, Mass.) were named to the Honorable Mention Team.
Coach Hager led the Pride to a 13-15 mark in 2012-2013 including an 11-5 mark in NECC contests. The Pride rebounded from an 0-11 start to win 13 of their final 17 games and grab the No. 3 seed in the NECC Tournament. Hager led the Pride to their first NECC Championship game appearance, where unfortunately, Regis fell to top-seeded Elms, 91-78. Hager has led Regis to an 18-16 record in NECC contests over the past two seasons, making it to the NECC Semifinals in back-to-back years.
Osanto Marc was named to the All-NECC Second Team after averaging 13.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 20 games played. Marc was selected as the NECC Player of the Week back on January 7th, and his 13.6 points per game ranked him ninth in the NECC. Marc was an All-NECC Honorable Mention selection last season. Osanto reached double-digits in scoring in 16 of 20 games played this season, including a season-high 23 points in a January 2nd game against UMass Dartmouth.
Ryan Chambers averaged 12.6 points per game to go with 2.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.3 steals per game en route to an All-NECC Honorable Mention selection. Chambers finished second in the NECC in three-pointers made with 76, and shot 38.4% from beyond the arc this season, ranking him fifth in the league. The junior co-captain also led the team in minutes played (34.8 mpg) and ranked sixth in that category. Chambers scored 10 or more points in 18-of-28 games this season, scoring 30 points twice, including 30 points in the NECC Championship.
Carlos Bermudez-Glean joins Chambers on the All-NECC Honorable Mention Team after averaging 10 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.7 steals per game in his rookie campaign. The five-time NECC Rookie of the Week ranked second in the league in steals as well as eighth in assists. His 40.5% shooting on three-pointers this season ranked third in the league. Bermudez-Glean registered a steal in 24-of-26 games this season, posting seven steals in just his second game of the year, and getting at least three steals in 16 games.
Other awards included Mitchell's Joshua Ford being named the NECC Player of the Year and his teammate, Devonta Mosley being named the NECC's top Rookie. Wheelock College was awarded the Team Sportsmanship Award.
