CHAMBERS AND MARC SPEAR LANCERS FOR 72-65 WIN

WESTON, Mass.- The Regis College men's basketball team defeated Worcester State Saturday night at the Teresa Higgins Gymnasium by the score of 72-65. The Pride move to 6-10 overall, while the visiting Lancers drop to 6-10 on the season.

The game opened with a fast break drive from the Pride's Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass.) who was able to finish a pass from Osanto Marc (Kissimmee, Fla.) to put the Pride up by two. The Lancers would counter with the strong shooting of Robert Hunter.  Hunter brought the Lancers to within one point of the lead halfway through the first half. Kyle Ferreira hit a deep three-point shot to put the Lancers up by two, making the score 15-13.

Regis continued to play solid defense and force turnovers during the transition game. Senior Jonathon Josselin (Medway, Mass.) picked off a pass from the Lancers Jake Ratliff and sprinted down the court to convert on a layup. This tally put the Pride down by four with six minutes to play in the first period. Regis continued to push the ball and up its offensive intensity. Chambers hit a deep three on a crisp pass freshman Ethan Peana (Staten Island, N.Y.)  to put Regis down by one. Peana channeled this success by driving to the paint and hitting a jumper on the next possession to make the score 27-26 in favor of the Pride. Both teams would go back and forth in the final minutes of play in the first half. Regis received a late tally from Marc to put the final score at halftime 39-35.

The Lancers Mike Gittens opened the second half by lining up to hit a shot from behind the arc to put Worcester State down by one.  Gittens answered two minutes later in the second period when he hit another three-pointer to keep the Lancers within one. Both teams would jockey for ball control and the lead throughout the second half. Chambers came up big, putting the Pride up by four when he hit a three pointer off a cross court skip pass from Peana to make the score 54-50 in favor of the Pride. Regis pressured the Lancer defense during the final five minutes of play and controlled the ball. Monte Goodwin would hit a shot in the final minute of the game, but this tally was not enough as the Pride obtained the victory with the final score being 72-65.

Worcester State was helped out by Monte Goodwin (Boston, Mass.) who combined to tally a team high 21 points and rack up six rebounds. Hunter and Gittens finished the day with 15 and 16 points respectively. The Pride received top scoring performances from Marc and Chambers who combined to put up a total of 53 points on the game. Peana was a defensive force for the Pride taking down a team high in boards with eight.

The Crimson and Gold return to action Tuesday, when they host Mitchell College at 7:00 p.m. for a NECC conference game. The Lancers next matchup is Tuesday, when they travel to Salem, Massachusetts to take on the Vikings from Salem State University at 7:30 p.m.
