PRIDE DROPS CLOSE GAME TO SVC

BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Regis College men's basketball suffered another heart-breaking loss, this time at the hands of Southern Vermont College, 66-64, on Thursday night in NECC action. The Pride dropped its second game in-a-row by only one basket and drop to 5-10 overall and 3-4 in the NECC.

Taeshon Johnson (Charlotte, NC) scored 16 of the Mountaineers last 19 points as Johnson and Southern Vermont protected its home court in an important conference game.

Johnson led Southern Vermont with 31 points in the win along with nine rebounds. Travis Severs had 14 points but none bigger than his last three with 44 seconds left that gave the Mountaineers the lead at 66-64. Severs points were the only points in the last 10 minutes that Johnson did not score. Hunter Stratton also scored double figures as he dropped 11 points for the victors.

For Regis, Jonathon Josselin (Medford, Mass.) led the way with 15 points. NECC Player of the Week Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass.) chipped in with 14 points, with four baskets from beyond the arc. Ethan Peana (Staten Island, N.Y.) was the other Pride member who had double figures as the forward scored 12 points in the defeat. On the glass, Peana pulled down seven to lead Regis.

After Severs hit the go ahead three with 44 seconds remaining to give SVC a two point lead, Regis' Ahmad Charles (Cambridge, Mass.) missed a three of his own. The missed three forced the Pride to foul immediately and put Southern Vermont on the line. The Mountaineers missed both free throws and the ball was rebounded by Josselin. Josselin then drove the court but was unable to make the runner to tie the game and put the game into overtime.

Regis steps out of conference play on Saturday afternoon when the Pride hosts Worcester State University in a non-league game scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
