CHAMBERS' CAREER-HIGH 27 POINTS LEADS PRIDE OVER EAGLES

WESTON, Mass.Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass.) nailed five three-pointers en route to 27 points to lead Regis College over Daniel Webster College, 66-55, in New England Collegiate Conference men's basketball action on Tuesday night in Weston, Mass. The Pride snaps a five game skid and improves to 4-8 overall and 2-2 in the NECC. Daniel Webster drops to 3-8 overall and 2-2 in league play.

Chambers got the scoring started for the Pride as his triple at the 16:31 mark of the opening frame were the first points of the game. Regis stretched its lead to 11-4 on a three-pointer by Ahmad Charles (Cambridge, Mass.), prompting a Daniel Webster timeout. Three minutes later, another Charles basket gave the Pride its largest lead of the first half, 20-4, capping a 15-0 run by the home team.

The Eagles responded with an 8-0 run of its own as Eric Suarez's (Brooklyn, N.Y.) jumper with 6:54 remaining left the Eagles facing a 20-12 deficit. The Eagles got the lead down to six on a triple by Daris Cosby (Columbia, S.C.), but the Pride closed out the period on a 9-3 run to end the first half leading 35-23.

Chambers led all scorers at the break with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Daris Cosby led the Eagles with 10 points and five rebounds headed into the second half.

Regis wasted no time building on its lead as the Pride scored three straight baskets to open the period and grab what would eventually be its largest lead of the game at 18 points. The Eagles would not go quietly, however, as a layup by Cosby made it a 52-40 game with 7:13 remaining in the game. Not to be outdone, Chambers buried a triple on the ensuing play, followed by Cosby answering on his end to keep it a 13 point game. On the next Regis possession, Chambers kept the mini-shootout going as his jumper kept it a 15 point game.

Both teams traded baskets over the next three minutes before Chambers' final bucket of the day extended the Pride lead to 18 and all but sealed the conference win. Daniel Webster scored seven-straight points to end the game, but it was too little, too late as Regis held on for the 66-55 victory.

Chambers' new career-high of 27 points came on an efficient 9-of-15 shooting, including a 5-of-8 showing from beyond the arc. Ahmad Charles came off the bench to score 16 points and grab a team-high eight rebounds while Robert Edwards (Memphis, Tenn.) overcame a poor shooting night (4-of-15) to score 10 points and grab seven rebounds and block five shots.

Daris Cosby led the Eagles with 26 points and also added eight rebounds and a pair of steals. Eric Suarez also posted double-digit points as the senior had 11 points to go along with a game-high nine rebounds. Khial Watson (Chesterfield, Mich.) came off the bench to score eight points in the setback.

The Crimson and Gold return to action on Thursday night when the Pride travel to Wheelock College for a 7:30 p.m. NECC matchup with the Wildcats. Daniel Webster continues its current three-game road trek when the Eagles take on Becker College on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
