OWLS FLY OVER PRIDE, 78-56

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State University's Lee Vazquez (Attleboro, Mass.) netted a career-high 38 points as the Owls posted a 78-56 victory over visiting Regis College on Wednesday night in non-conference men's basketball action in Westfield, Mass. The Pride drops 2-2 on the young season while Westfield State improves to 5-0. Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass.) scored 17 points to pace the Pride.

Westfield State jumped out to a 34-19 lead with 5:46 remaining in the opening frame before a Kandley Val (Boston, Mass.) and-one layup made it only a 10 point deficit just over a minute later. Another and-one layup by NECC Rookie of the Week Osanto Marc (Kissimmee, Fla.) with under a minute remaining left the Pride facing a 38-29 hole headed into the final period.

Ahmad Charles (Cambridge, Mass.) scored a layup to start the second half knifing into the Owls' lead, but a dunk by Grant Cooper helped propel Westfield State to a double-digit lead as the Pride could not get closer than 12 points as Westfield State closed out Regis for the 78-56 win.

Chambers led all Pride players with 17 points while also adding six rebounds. Kandley Val posted seven points and a team-high eight rebounds. Ahmad Charles came off the bench to score nine points for the Pride.

The Owls were paced by Vazquez's 38 points, including six three pointers. Matt Devine just missed out on a triple-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and eight blocks, while Grant Cooper scored 11 points and added eight rebounds.

Regis returns to action on December 6th when the Pride host Elms College at 7:00 p.m. in each team's respective NECC opener.
