REGIS COLLEGE FALLS TO WHEATON IN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME OF PARK LODGE TOURNAMENT

WESTON, Mass.—In the championship game of the Park Lodge Tournament, Wheaton College went on to defeat Regis College 73-50. With the win, Wheaton College improves to 2-6, while Regis College falls to 6-3.

Starting with a six-point advantage, the Lyons would go up 10 points by the 10:30 mark of the first half.

Wheaton College jumped out to a 12-point lead (24-12) on a Scott Faucher (Lebanon, NH/Kimball Union) three pointer. The basket forced Regis College head coach Nate Hager to call a timeout at 8:43 to regroup his team.

The Pride would cut into the lead when Kandley Val hit a jumper, and convert his first free throw with less than 3:30 remaining in the first half. Brian Grossman (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) would look to keep Wheaton ahead hitting consecutive three-pointers with less than two minutes remaining in the half.

The Regis College offense would not help its attempt at closing the gap as the team committed several costly turnovers late in the half. However, Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass./Abington) would look to keep the Pride in contention hitting a three-pointer in the winding seconds. Grossman would answer, moving the Lyons lead back up to 12 (36-24).

Returning from intermission Wheaton College would go on a 9-2 run to open the first four minutes of the second half. Anthony Weeks would penetrate the Regis defense, and assist teammate Shawn Daily (Mount Vernon, NY/Mount Saint Michael) on the score. Daily's basket gave Wheaton its largest lead of the day at 19-points. Derrick Neal would convert a three-pointer at 13:30 to cut the lead to 16.

Wheaton made 13 three-point attempts in comparison to Regis' two.

Wheaton's Anthony Coppola (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) converted a score-and-foul attempt to advance the Lyons to a 22-point lead (56-34) at the halfway mark. Coppola had a game-high 20 points at that time (9:34).

Weeks' would again return to the Wheaton stat sheet, but this time it would be to convert the Lyons 14th three-point attempt.

Kortney Wornum-Parker (Boston, Mass./Newton North) would enter the game, and get fouled seconds into the game. With Parker unable to convert two free throws, Wheaton took the opportunity to run a fast break and score on a Mike Hall (Lynnfield, Mass./Saint John's Prep) lay-up.
