WESTON, Mass.—Senior Derrick Neal (Boston, Mass./Brighton) posted a season-high 21 points for Regis College against North Park (Ill.) in the Salem State Tournament. Regis College lost 78-67 to North Park, dropping the Pride to 7-4 overall.
Two other Regis College player's scored double figures in the loss. Freshman Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass./Abington) contributed 18 points, a career-high, while senior Phil Alibrandi (York, Maine/York) finished with 10 points.
The Pride seemed to struggle from floor, shooting just 39 percent, while North Park hit more than 59 percent of its shots from the field. Neal was 7-of-13 (.538) from the field, and 6-of-11 (.545) from behind the three-point line. Chambers was as efficient from the field, hitting 50 percent (6-of-12). He shot 67 percent (6-of-9) behind the three-point line.
The Regis defense gave North Park fits throughout the game. The Pride defense forced 26 turnovers. Regis College committed just 16 turnovers in the game. Where the two teams were significantly different was on the boards. North Park collected a total of 40 rebounds, 32 defensive, while Regis had just 22 rebounds total.
Regis College scored 31 points in the first half, five fewer than North Park. This will be Regis' last game of the 2010 season. Regis College returns to the court January 5 when it hosts Western Connecticut State at 7:30 p.m.
