Student-Athletes Honored for Academic Excellence, Service to Campus Community

WESTON, Mass. – Culminating with the 94th Regis College Commencement ceremony Saturday, May 11, and the Baccalaureate Mass and Awards Ceremony Friday, May 10, many Pride student-athletes received honors from various academic departments and campus offices highlighting their excellence within the Regis community.

Kristin Barrett (Plymouth, Mass.) was named Class of 2024 Co-Valedictorian and spoke at Baccalaureate after completing her bachelor's degree in marketing and communications with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Barrett, graduating summa cum laude, received the Outstanding Student in Communications Award at Baccalaureate and the Student Affairs Leadership Award in April.

Madeline Conover (West Newbury, Mass.), the Class of 2024 President, was selected to speak during Commencement and reflected on her four years at Regis. "We found ways to live our mission and be of service. I challenge all of you to find ways to bring that drive for excellence into your next communities," said Conover.

Besides Barrett, five other student-athletes completed the Honors Program with honors. Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) also graduated summa cum laude, Cristina Nazario (Isla Verde, Puerto Rico) received magna cum laude honors, and Megan Miller (Quincy, Mass.), Samantha Perkins (Whitman, Mass.), and Mia Rogers (Revere, Mass.) earned cum laude honors. In addition, Nazario earned departmental honors within the College of Arts and Sciences.

Barrett and Conover received the prestigious Crimson and Gold tassel on the basis of their outstanding service to Regis, commitment to the values of the Sisters of St. Joseph, and leadership of their class. Several other graduating student-athletes also collected the Crimson and Gold tassel: Chloe Beland (Southborough, Mass.), Sofia Colon (San Juan, Puerto Rico), Elisa D'Sa (Bellmore, N.Y.), Jeremiah Frias (San Diego, Calif.), Owen Harney (Natick, Mass.), Grace Heffernan (Winchester, Mass.), Samuel Madriz (Union, N.J.), Maddy Robertson (Athol, Mass.), Maddey Strickland (Hopkinton, Mass.), and Zach Sweeney (Torrington, Conn.).

Payton Bridge (Norton, Mass.) was recognized by the College of Arts and Sciences for her exemplary work in completing her minor in Spanish. Sarah Juskiewicz (Gorham, Maine) received the Outstanding Business Student Award from the Sloane School of Business and Communication as she graduated with her bachelor's degree in business management.

At the Student Affairs Leadership Awards in April, Conover received the Leadership in Athletics Award. Toni Ondris (Mineola, N.Y.) shared the Graduate Student Leadership Award with men's volleyball volunteer assistant coach Marcello Cappuccio.

Several sophomore and junior student-athletes were named Pillars of the Community for "embodying what it is to be a Regis student, with our heritage created by the Sisters of St. Joseph": William Comeiro (Woburn, Mass.), Malakai DeHuelbes (Tucson, Ariz.), Chris Guadagno (Miami, Fla.), Chris Margiatto (Suffield, Conn.), Grace Micklon (Salem, N.H.), Vera Rivard (Springfield, N.H.), and Ambar Rodriguez (Lynn, Mass.).

Nine student-athletes received the Rising Star Award: Isabella Clark-Alderman (Boxford, Mass.), Eddie Djatcha (Lowell, Mass.), Grace Fabiano (Greenland, N.H.), Bella George (Lynnfield, Mass.), Erika Marinelli (Point Pleasant, N.J.), John Nangle (Lowell, Mass.), Madelynn Philibotte (Ludlow, Mass.), Salena Thongsouvanh (Killingly, Conn.), and Brandon Valdes (Miami, Fla.).

The Regis College Department of Athletics emphasizes academic excellence, commitment to service, competition on the national level, and the principles of good sportsmanship. As a Division III member of the NCAA, Regis enables student-athletes to integrate and balance their athletics experience with academic interests and other co-curricular activities.
