Regis Softball Extends Winning Streak to Four

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College Softball swept Dean College, 8-0, and 6-3, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader at Regis Softball Field.

GAME ONE: REGIS 8, DEAN 0

After a quick first inning with no hits and three consecutive outs in the top of the second, Lexi Nichols (Granby, Conn.) started off the inning with a triple to left center. Abby Erickson (Worcester, Mass.) knocked the first run in for the Pride after a single to right field. With runners on first and third, Maddy Bradish (Hudson, N.H.) singled to left field, bringing in the second run, to lead 2-0, heading into the third.

The Pride held the Bulldogs to one hit in the top of the third, just before extending their lead by two runs off two hits. Starting off the inning at bat, Grace Motto (Wareham, Mass.) coined a triple to then score on a sacrifice fly. Jaylene Deslauriers (Taunton, Mass.) continued the offensive output with a double to bring in another run to lead 4-0.

Regis scored one run in the fourth inning and two in the fifth. The Pride put together a two-out rally to score one run in the bottom of the sixth, to finish the first game with a final of 8-0.

Mel Rees (Middleborough, Mass.) pitched a one-hitter in the first game, while earning five strikeouts.

GAME 2: REGIS 6, DEAN 3:

After a scoreless first inning, the Bulldogs started the top of the second scoring two runs to lead 2-0. The Pride responded with a run in the bottom of the third, featuring a home run from Rees.

The Pride broke through and scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Avery Patles (Derry, N.H.) brought in a run after hitting a single to left field, advancing a runner to third. With a runner in scoring position and two outs, Bianca Burke (Cambridge, Mass.) started a two-out rally, bringing in another run with Patles advancing to third. Extending the Pride lead, Motto earned a hit up the middle to knock Burke in, to lead 5-0, heading into the fifth inning.

The Bulldogs scored one run in the top of the fifth with two outs to trail by two, heading into the sixth inning.

The Pride held the Bulldogs to one hit in the top of the sixth, just before the Pride extended their lead with one run in the bottom of the sixth. Dean was unable to score in the seventh inning, resulting in a final of 6-3, with a second Pride victory.

Regis (11-21, 5-11 GNAC) is scheduled to travel to University of Saint Joseph on Sunday, April 28, at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Dean (3-27, 1-13 GNAC) is set to travel to face Johnson and Wales University on Sunday, April 28, at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
