New England Qualifier Posted, School Record Established Saturday

WESTON, Mass. – Another member of the Regis College women's track and field team qualified for the New England Division III Championships, and one school record was broken as the Pride hosted the Pre-Conference meet Saturday, April 23, at Regis Stadium.

Sam Perkins (Whitman, Mass.) qualified for the New England Division III Championships in the javelin throw with a mark of 34.65 meters (113' 8"), winning the event in the process. Jackie Samse (Wethersfield, Conn.) finished second in the event with a mark of 26.60 meters (87' 3").

Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) broke the school record in the 800 meter run by 2.7 seconds with a time of 2:27.29, finishing fourth overall in the event. Elisa D'Sa (Bellmore, N.Y.) finished in seventh place with a time of 2:40.77, followed by Elizabeth Stevenson (Scituate, Mass.) in eighth place in 2:43.36.

Mikayla Francois (Walpole, Mass.) led a 1-2-3 Pride finish in the 200 meter dash, winning the event in 28.12 seconds, followed by Erin Sheehan (Pembroke, Mass.) in second place in 28.26 seconds and Emily Fagundo (Dover, N.H.) in third place in 28.57 seconds. Sheehan and Fagundo also ran the final two legs of the victorious 4x100 meter relay, joining with Lily Belschner (Revere, Mass.) and Hannah Plamondon (Woonsocket, R.I.) to post an overall time of 52.84 seconds.

Elisabeth Cooke (East Longmeadow, Mass.) won the shot put with a mark of 9.94 meters (32' 7.5"), just one inch ahead of her nearest competitor, plus she finished third in the hammer throw at 35.66 meters (117'). Fagundo placed second in the long jump with a top mark of 4.51 meters (14' 9.75"), while Emily Aho (Pelham, N.H.) ended up in third place in the triple jump with a mark of 9.37 meters (30' 9").

Erin Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) cruised to a victory in the 1500 meter run by close to seven seconds with a time of 5:12.08. Laylan Harris (McKinney, Texas) earned a second place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:03.65, and Abby Kilbride (Peabody, Mass.) posted a third place finish in the 100 meter dash in 13.77 seconds.

Wrapping up the track events, the quartet of Ashleigh Kelley, Stevenson, Libby Parker (Bow, N.H.), and Caterina Koch finished in second place in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:54.48.

After the meet, Cooke, a graduate student, and seniors Fagundo, Ashleigh Kelley, Erin Kelley, Lizzy Melvin (Southington, Conn.), Plamondon, Samse, and Sheehan were honored for their significant contributions to the track and field program.

Regis College will head to New London, N.H., next Sunday, May 1, for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Colby-Sawyer College. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
