Women’s Track and Field Takes Home Regis Spring Classic Title

WESTON, Mass. – Thanks to five event victories and numerous top-six scoring performances, the Regis College women's track and field team finished first in the Regis Spring Classic, held Friday, April 8, at Regis Stadium.

On the track, Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) finished first in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:02.79, followed by Erin Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) in third place in 5:20.58. Ashleigh Kelley then led off the 4x400 meter relay, teaming with Elizabeth Stevenson (Scituate, Mass.), Elisa D'Sa (Bellmore, N.Y.), and Annabelle Jean-Philippe (Randolph, Mass.) for a first place finish in an overall time of 4:49.46.

Mikayla Francois (Walpole, Mass.) led three Pride competitors within the top four of the long jump as she finished atop the standings with a mark of 4.79 meters (15' 8.75"). Emily Fagundo (Dover, N.H.) finished third with a mark of 4.56 meters (14' 11.5"), followed by Francesca Seac (Malden, Mass.) in fourth place at 4.54 meters (14' 10.75").

Sam Perkins (Whitman, Mass.) continues to lead the Pride in the javelin throw, finishing first overall with a mark of 33.77 meters (110' 9"), with Jackie Samse (Wethersfield, Conn.) finishing fourth at 27.25 meters (89' 5"). Libby Parker (Bow, N.H.) also picked up 10 points for Regis by completing the 3000 meter steeplechase in 14:05.4.

Elsewhere in the field events, Catherine Hegarty (Needham, Mass.) finished second in the triple jump at 9.25 meters (30' 4.25") and fourth in the high jump after clearing 1.32 meters (4' 4"). Also in the triple jump, Hannah Plamondon (Woonsocket, R.I.) finished third with a mark of 9.11 meters (29' 10.75"), followed by Emily Aho (Pelham, N.H.) in fourth at 8.97 meters (29' 5.25") and Katie Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) in fifth at 8.69 meters (28' 6.25").

In the throwing events, Elisabeth Cooke (East Longmeadow, Mass.) made a strong return to competition, finishing second in the discus throw with a mark of 30.06 meters (98' 7") and third in the hammer throw at 35.59 meters (116' 9"). Also in the hammer throw, Tori Bradley (Dracut, Mass.) finished fourth at 33.92 meters (111' 3"), ahead of Allie Sanidas (Ipswich, Mass.) in fifth at 31.90 meters (104' 8") and Maddy Robertson (Athol, Mass.) in sixth at 29.98 meters (98' 4").

Back on the track, Erin Sheehan (Pembroke, Mass.) finished second in the 200 meter dash in 28.01 seconds, followed by Fagundo in third in 28.20 seconds and Francois in fifth in 28.60 seconds. Francois also placed third in the 100 meter hurdles in 18.61 seconds, with Aho finishing sixth in 20.24 seconds.

In the 100 meter dash, Abby Kilbride (Peabody, Mass.) finished in fifth place with a time of 13.92 seconds, just ahead of Diana DelloRusso (Milford, Mass.) in sixth place in 13.94 seconds. Laylan Harris (McKinney, Texas) finished fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:07.56, with Jean-Philippe finishing sixth in 1:08.11.

D'Sa earned a second place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:20.43, while Juleen Guirand (Berkley, Mass.) finished third in 1:25.78. Kilbride, Lily Belschner (Revere, Mass.), Sheehan, and Seac combined to finish third in the 4x100 meter relay with an overall time of 54.22 seconds.

As a team, the Pride finished comfortably in first place with 166 points, ahead of Emmanuel with 99 points and Suffolk with 83 points.

Regis College heads to New London, Conn., next weekend for the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College Friday and Saturday, April 15-16.
