School Record Highlights Regis Effort at Wellesley Invitational

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Regis College women's track and field team combined for one school record and four event victories at the Wellesley Invitational Saturday, hosted by Wellesley College at Butler Stadium.

Erin Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) broke the school record in the 5000 meter run by over 21 seconds with a time of 18:52.68, finishing third overall in the event. It was also over two minutes faster than her previous personal best established at the 2019 GNAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) won the 800 meter run by over three seconds with a time of 2:35.41. She also teamed with Juleen Guirand (Berkley, Mass.), Emily Fagundo (Dover, N.H.), and Annabelle Jean-Philippe (Randolph, Mass.) in the 4x400 meter relay, combining for an overall time of 4:46.99.

The other three event victories came in field events, including Catherine Hegarty (Needham, Mass.) in the triple jump with a top mark of 9.25 meters (30' 4"). Hannah Plamondon (Woonsocket, R.I.) came in second with a mark of 9.17 meters (30' 1"), followed by Emily Aho (Pelham, N.H.) at 9.03 meters (29' 7.5") and Katie Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) at 8.62 meters (28' 3.25").

Sam Perkins (Whitman, Mass.) posted the top mark in the javelin throw with a top effort of 33.88 meters (111' 1.75"), over nine meters further than her nearest competitor. Tori Bradley (Dracut, Mass.) won the hammer throw with a mark of 30.73 meters (100' 9.75"), plus she finished sixth overall in the shot put at 8.34 meters (27' 4.25") and seventh in the discus throw at 23.70 meters (77' 9").

Also in the shot put, Kristin Barrett (Plymouth, Mass.) finished second overall with a top throw of 8.88 meters (29' 1.5"), followed by Perkins in fifth place at 8.37 meters (27' 5.5") and Claudia Sevi (Sharon, Mass.) in seventh place at 7.88 meters (25' 10.25"). Sevi also placed fourth in the hammer throw at 25.21 meters (82' 8.5"), just behind Maddy Robertson (Athol, Mass.) in third place at 25.82 meters (84' 8.5") and just ahead of Jackie Samse (Wethersfield, Conn.) in fifth place at 23.28 meters (76' 4.5").

Back on the track, Erin Sheehan (Pembroke, Mass.) finished ninth overall in the 100 meter dash in 14.33 seconds, just ahead of Fagundo at 14.47 seconds and Laylan Harris (McKinney, Texas) at 14.62 seconds. Harris also placed eighth overall in the 200 meter dash with a time of 30.06 seconds, just behind Diana DelloRusso (Milford, Mass.) in seventh place at 29.79 seconds and ahead of Abby Kilbride (Peabody, Mass.) in ninth place at 30.72 seconds.

The Regis College track and field team will host the Regis Spring Classic Friday, April 8, at Regis Stadium. Field events are scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m., with the first track competition set to start at 3 p.m.
