Women’s Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season with Two School Records

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Two Regis College records fell as the women's track and field team opened the 2022 outdoor season at the BSU Bears Invitational, hosted by Bridgewater State University at the Edward C. Swenson Athletic Complex.

Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) broke her own school record in the 1500 meter run by over five seconds, posting a time of 5:01.18 to finish first among Division III representatives and third overall behind only two competitors from Division I Merrimack College. Erin Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) finished 10th overall in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:08.59 as well as ninth overall in the 800 meter run in 2:39.25.

Mikayla Francois (Walpole, Mass.) produced the other record-setting performance of the day, clearing 1.42 meters (4' 7.75") in the high jump, 0.13 meters more than the previous mark set four years ago. Francois also finished 15th overall in the 100 meter hurdles in 18.51 seconds and 17th overall in the 200 meter dash in 28.86 seconds.

In her first collegiate track and field competition, Sam Perkins (Whitman, Mass.) finished sixth in the javelin throw, posting a mark of 34.02 meters (111' 7") on her final attempt. Graduate student Elisabeth Cooke (East Longmeadow, Mass.) also earned a top-10 finish, placing ninth in the discus throw with a top mark of 28.42 meters (93' 3").

In the jumping events, Catherine Hegarty (Needham, Mass.) finished 12th in the triple jump with a leap of 9.20 meters (30' 2.25") accomplished on her final attempt, while Emily Fagundo (Dover, N.H.) placed 13th in the long jump with a mark of 4.33 meters (14' 2.5") posted on her final attempt. Hannah Plamondon (Woonsocket, R.I.) finished 14th in the long jump at 4.23 meters (13' 10.5") and 16th in the triple jump at 9.07 meters (29' 9.25").

Back on the track, the quartet of Lily Belschner (Revere, Mass.), Fagundo, Erin Sheehan (Pembroke, Mass.), and Diana DelloRusso (Milford, Mass.) finished in seventh place in the 4x100 meter relay with a total time of 54.44 seconds. Elisa D'Sa (Bellmore, N.Y.) finished 11th on the 800 meter run in 2:43.25, and then she joined Annabelle Jean-Philippe (Randolph, Mass.), Elizabeth Stevenson (Scituate, Mass.), and Juleen Guirand (Berkley, Mass.) in the 4x400 meter relay, as the foursome combined for an 11th place time of 5:08.85.

Regis College next competes at the Wellesley Invitational next Saturday, April 2, at Butler Stadium in Wellesley, Mass., beginning at 11 a.m.
