Three GNAC Titles Pace Women’s Track & Field at Championships

BOSTON – The Regis College women's track and field team collected three individual titles Sunday at the 2022 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships held at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.

Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) picked up the first GNAC individual title of the day for the Pride, winning the one mile run with a time of 5:31.88. Kelley also finished fifth in the 800 meter run with a mark of 2:32.49. After crossing the finish line in fourth place in the one mile run in 5:44.40, Erin Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) collected a GNAC title in the 3000 meter run, completing the event in 11:21.38.

The third individual title for Regis came in the final event to be completed, as Hannah Plamondon (Woonsocket, R.I.) led a 1-2-3 Pride finish in the triple jump with a winning mark of 9.54 meters (31' 3.75"). Catherine Hegarty (Needham, Mass.) finished second in the event with a top leap of 9.46 meters (31' 0.5"), followed by Emily Aho (Pelham, N.H.) in third place with a mark of 9.23 meters (30' 3.5").

Mikayla Francois (Walpole, Mass.) earned All-GNAC honors in two events, first finishing third in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.35 seconds in the finals after qualifying with a preliminary time of 8.26 seconds. She also finished third in the long jump with a top mark of 4.81 meters (15' 9.5"), just ahead of Emily Fagundo (Dover, N.H.) in fourth place with a mark of 4.66 meters (15' 3.5").

Erin Sheehan (Pembroke, Mass.) also earned a podium finish, placing third in the 200 meter dash with a personal-best time of 27.90 seconds. Sheehan and Fagundo also qualified for the finals in the 60 meter dash, with preliminary times of 8.38 seconds for Fagundo and 8.57 seconds for Sheehan.

Allie Sanidas (Ipswich, Mass.) scored points in both throwing events for the Pride, finishing fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 9.91 meters (32' 6.25") and sixth in the shot put with a top throw of 8.90 meters (29' 2.5"). Three other Pride throwers finished in the top 10 in the weight throw, as Tori Bradley (Dracut, Mass.) finished seventh at 9.52 meters (31' 3"), followed by Anastazia Copeland (West Hartford, Conn.) in eighth place at 9.20 meters (30' 2.25"). Claudia Sevi (Sharon, Mass.) placed 10th in both the weight throw at 8.81 meters (28' 11") and the shot put at 8.27 meters (27' 1.75").

Thanks to the team's podium sweep in the triple jump, the Pride were able to move up to third place in the final standings with 79 points, just ahead of fourth place Colby-Sawyer with 77 points. Suffolk University took the GNAC team title with 162 points.

The team's attention now turns to the outdoor season, starting with the BSU Bears Invitational at Bridgewater State Saturday, March 26.
