Brett Kiesel, Justin Thuotte Collect GNAC Weekly Honors

WINTHROP, Mass. - After record-setting performances at last Thursday's Regis Spring Classic, senior Brett Kiesel (Rocky Hill, Conn.) has been named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Co-Field Athlete of the Week and first-year competitor Justin Thuotte (Lebanon, Conn.) has been selected GNAC Men's Track and Field Rookie of the Week, announced Monday, April 10, by the league office.

Kiesel not only broke his own school record in the javelin throw, but he also became the first Regis competitor to qualify for this year's New England Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. On his final attempt, Kiesel launched the javelin 51.90 meters (170' 3") to win the event, over four meters further than the previous standard he established last year.

In addition, Kiesel won the pole vault after clearing 3.40 meters (11' 1.75") and finished third in the long jump with a mark of 6.21 meters (20' 4.5"), both personal collegiate-best efforts. Kiesel finished fifth in the discus throw with a mark of 34.43 meters (112' 11") and seventh in the shot put at 10.94 meters (35' 10.75").

Thuotte broke the school record in the long jump, leading a 1-2-3 Regis finish with a mark of 6.44 meters (21' 1.5") accomplished on his second attempt. He jumped 0.17 meters farther than the previous standard set by Nicholas Pastore at the 2022 GNAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Thuotte also finished first in the high jump after clearing 1.80 meters (5' 10.75"), matching his collegiate-best mark. He established a new personal collegiate-best time of 11.71 seconds in the 100 meter dash to end up fourth in that event, plus he helped the 4x100 meter relay squad to a fourth place finish with an overall time of 46.39 seconds.

The Regis College track and field team will be represented at both the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College Friday evening, April 14, and the Carla Coffey Invitational at Smith College Friday and Saturday, April 14-15.
