Three Individual Titles Lead to Second Place Finish at GNACs

BOSTON - Justin Thuotte (Lebanon, Conn.) won two individual titles and Brett Kiesel (Rocky Hill, Conn.) finally earned his own individual championship to lead the Regis College men's track and field team to a second place finish at the 2024 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.

Thuotte finished first in the long jump with a mark of 6.44 meters (21' 1.5"), tying his top career collegiate mark and achieved on his second attempt. He then went on to repeat as conference champion in the triple jump with a mark of 12.86 meters (42' 2.25"), a new career high that he posted on his fourth attempt. Thuotte also cleared 3.10 meters (10' 2") to finish second in the pole vault and 1.75 meters (5' 8.75") to end up fourth in the high jump, plus he finished fifth in the 60 meter dash in 7.38 seconds.

Kiesel was the one person to finish ahead of Thuotte in the pole vault, winning the event after clearing 3.55 meters (11' 7.75") on his first attempt. He also finished second in the shot put with a mark of 11.40 meters (37' 5") accomplished on his third attempt. The Pride totaled 13 points in the shot put as Ryan Sweeney (Lynn, Mass.) finished fourth with a personal-best mark of 11.28 meters (37' 0.25") and Bryan Abreu (Haverhill, Mass.) placed sixth at 10.75 meters (35' 3.25").

Also in the field events, Aiden Charles (Lowell, Mass.) finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 12.92 meters (42' 4.75") posted on his fifth attempt, with Ed Power (Lynn, Mass.) finishing sixth at 10.14 meters (33' 3.25"), a personal-best collegiate mark. In the jumps, Harry Grayson (Lowell, Mass.) finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 12.76 meters (41' 10.5"), fourth in the long jump at 6.10 meters (20' 0.25"), and fifth in the high jump after clearing 1.70 meters (5' 7"), with Zach Myrick (Southington, Conn.) placing sixth by clearing 1.65 meters (5' 5").

In the 60 meter hurdles, Grayson finished second with a time of 8.91 seconds, followed by Charles in third place in a collegiate-best time of 9.05 seconds. Benjamin Happenny (Woonsocket, R.I.) also scored for the Pride by finishing fourth in the 800 meter run in 2:03.61, as did Riley Stogsdill (San Diego, Calif.) with a sixth place finish in the one mile run in 5:00.21 and Zach Sigman (Buffalo, N.Y.) by crossing the finish line sixth in the 5000 meter run in 18:32.83.

As a team, the Regis men finished second overall with 107 points, comfortably in front of third place Colby-Sawyer College by 26 points. Saint Joseph's College won the team title with 244 points, winning 11 of 16 events during the meet.

Those who qualified will compete at the New England Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships next Sunday and Monday, Feb. 25-26, at the TRACK at New Balance in Boston.
