NORTON HAS HUGE DAY AT HEMERY INVITE

BOSTON – The Regis College men's track and field team competed at day two of the Dave Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University on Saturday afternoon.

Matt Norton (Weymouth, Mass.) set a new school record, became the first Regis athlete to break the two minute mark and qualified for New England's with a time of 1:57.76 in the 800 meter run. Freshman Shane Romanchick (Trumbull, Conn.) set a new personal and school record in the mile run with a time of 4:45.68. Freshman sprinter Fred Mathieu (Miami, Fla.) bested his previous time in the 200 meter dash and placed first in his section with a time of 23.21.

In the field events freshman thrower Frank Pelleteri (Freeport, Maine) competed in the shot put event and threw the put 11.84 meters which was a new personal best.

Pride assistant coaches Kevin Greene of the Flynn Running Company and Patrick Lahey of the Flynn Throwing Company competed in the meet as well. Coach Green ran the 3k race and finished with a time of 8:10.68. Coach Lahey placed 39th of 43 throwers in the shot put event with a distance of 10.76 meters.

The track and field teams return to action next Saturday at the New England Division III Indoor Championships at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
