With preseason training fully underway, the Track & Field Teams have announced their Captains for the upcoming 2011-12 indoor and outdoor seasons.
The men’s squad will be Captained by senior Schallum
Dorleans, reprising the title he has previously held in seasons
past. With the men’s team in only its third year, Dorleans
will lead a young squad, packed with new talent. His experience as
an athlete and as an upperclassman will be indispensible as
recruiting efforts has quickly boosted the roster size to
double-digits. Say Head Coach Kloiber of Dorleans, “We have a
great new batch of athletes that are radiating talent and
super-charged energy, having Schallum as their Captain will ensure
that potential is harnessed within each practice. He’s been
through it all, knows what needs to be done, and is always ready to
help the new guys out when they need. The men’s team has had
a good string of Captains so far, which will only lead to success
for everyone involved.”
On the Women’s side, junior Anyah Hernandez and
sophomore Katherine Warner will be taking the reins. The two were
selected for the first time as co-captains this year, but Kloiber
says their selection was a natural choice. “Anyah and
Katherine bring a lot of positive energy to practice, and they
exude what the team needs in its captains: commitment, passion,
integrity, and a very giving attitude when it comes to supporting
their teammates. It’s their first time out, and there will be
a learning curve, but they wouldn’t have been chosen if the
coaching staff didn’t have the utmost confidence in their
leadership abilities. I know the ladies will be great.”
