BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Regis College took care of business Tuesday night, defeating the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 3-0 (25-16, 25-10, 25-16), in a non-conference women's collegiate volleyball match at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.
Kamdyn Tenorio (Irvine, Calif.) notched her sixth double-double of the season with a match-high 11 kills along with 16 digs, plus she hit .500 in the match. Ayla Albers (San Diego, Calif.) earned nine kills on a .444 hitting percentage, and Ahnasia Mckinney (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished with seven kills, 16 assists, three service aces, and four digs. Defensively, Isabella Seccareccio (Medford, Mass.) contributed a career-high 17 digs.
Thanks to kills by Bella Karpicz (Berkley, Mass.) and Albers as well as a service ace from Tenorio, Regis scored the first three points of the match on its way to opening a 10-2 lead in the first set. Led by two service aces from Shayla Narodowg, the Buccaneers scored the next four points, but the Pride would eventually close out the opening set with a 9-3 scoring run, capped by kills from Grace Fabiano (Greenland, N.H.) and Karpicz.
The Pride scored five of the first six points of the second set and continually extended their advantage, eventually taking a 16-5 lead on consecutive kills by Tenorio and a service ace from Alexandra Rivera (Bristol, Conn.). Regis ended the set by scoring four of the final five points, including a kill by Fabiano and a service ace from Mckinney.
Mass Maritime (4-20) scored the first two points of the third set and pulled into a 4-4 tie before Regis took the lead for good on a kill by Fabiano and a service ace from Anna Abouzeid (Taunton, Mass.). Narodowg notched another service ace and Chloe Johnson added a kill to bring the Buccaneers within two points at 16-14, but the Pride responded with an 8-1 scoring run to clinch the set and the match, including two service aces by Kate Truog (Brookline, Mass.).
Narodowg finished with 10 assists, 10 digs, three kills, and three service aces, while Marlo Stark paced her team with four kills. Defensively, Audrey Manning led the way with 12 digs.
Regis (22-8) closes the regular season Friday, Nov. 8, against Keene State at home starting at 4 p.m., with the Senior Day presentation to take place before the match. The Pride will then host a quarterfinal match in the 2024 GNAC Women's Volleyball Tournament next Tuesday, Nov. 12, beginning at 7 p.m. at Higgins Court.
