BOSTON - Regis College lost to Emerson College, 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-16), Friday night in a non-conference women's collegiate volleyball match at Brown and Plofker Gymnasium.
The Lions scored six straight points early in the first set, led by three kills from Parker Cummings, to open a 7-1 advantage. After continually extending its lead, Emerson would close out the opening set on a 6-1 scoring run, capped by three kills from Amelia Combs.
In the second set, Regis pulled to within one point at 5-4 on a kill by Kamdyn Tenorio (Irvine, Calif.) and a service ace from Ahnasia Mckinney (Chelmsford, Mass.), but Emerson responded with an 8-1 scoring run, led by a kill and a block assist each from Cummings and Lorena Rivera. The Lions clinched the second set with a 9-3 scoring run, including a kill and two total blocks from Brooke Maynez.
Regis pulled to within one point midway through the third set on a kill by Tenorio and was behind by just two points at 15-13 after an Emerson service error. However, the Lions closed out the set and the match with a 10-3 scoring run, including the final four points thanks in part to a kill by Combs and a service ace from Chloe Hokenson.
Emerson (12-14) was led by Combs with 16 kills on a .500 hitting percentage, while Cummings contributed eight kills. Hokenson accumulated 12 assists, four kills, and five service aces, and Caroline Davis added four service aces and a match-high 13 defensive digs to the winning effort.
Mckinney led the Pride with five kills and seven assists along with six digs, while Avery Mola (Cheshire, Conn.) finished with a team-high eight digs. However, every Regis hitter ended up with more attack errors than kills.
Regis (19-8) plays its final two conference matches of the regular season as it hosts Colby-Sawyer College and Albertus Magnus College in a tri-match Saturday, Nov. 2, starting at 10 a.m.
