Regis Loses Non-Conference Tilt to Golden Bears

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College lost to Western New England, 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-20), Tuesday night in a non-conference women's collegiate volleyball match at Higgins Court.

Kamdyn Tenorio (Irvine, Calif.) led the Pride with seven kills, while Ahnasia Mckinney (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished with six kills, eight assists, and 10 defensive digs. Ayla Albers (San Diego, Calif.) paced the team with three service aces and 11 digs.

The Golden Bears took an early 4-2 lead before Regis scored four straight points thanks in part to a kill by Mckinney and a service ace from Alexandra Rivera (Bristol, Conn.). Down 10-8, Western New England went on a 6-1 scoring run, led by a kill and a solo block by Yemayma Molina, to pull ahead, 14-11.

The Pride battled back to tie the set at 17-17, but Western New England put together an 8-2 scoring run to close out the opening set, starting with a kill by Lea Barber and a block by Molina and Barber. The visitors would score the final four points of the set, three of them coming on kills by Taylor Geist, Alissa Hawes, and Molina.

Regis took an 8-7 lead in the second set before Western New England rattled off an 8-3 scoring run to open a 15-11 advantage. The Pride pulled to within one point at 16-15 before the Golden Bears increased their lead back to five points, led by Isabelle Petty with a kill and two block assists. Once again, Western New England scored the last four points of the set, capped by two kills from Barber and the set-clinching kill by Molina.

The momentum of the third set went back-and-forth, with Regis eventually pulling ahead 19-17 on consecutive service aces by Avery Mola (Cheshire, Conn.). The Golden Bears responded with an 8-1 scoring run to close out the set and the match, led by two kills from Hawes and four service aces from Geist.

Hawes led the Golden Bears with 12 kills and Barber contributed eight kills and 19 digs as Geist dished out 29 assists to go along with three kills, four service aces, and four digs. Defensively, Western New England accumulated 11 team blocks, led by Molina with seven total blocks, and 68 digs, paced by Becca Mayer with 22 digs.

Regis College (19-7) heads into Boston to face Emerson College Friday, Nov. 1, starting at 6 p.m. Western New England (18-5) hosts Roger Williams Saturday, Nov. 2, beginning at 12 p.m.
