WESTON, Mass. - For the second straight match, Regis College hit over .300 offensively as a team as the Pride defeated Emmanuel College, 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-19), Tuesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's volleyball match at Higgins Court.
Alexandra Rivera (Bristol, Conn.) dished out 33 assists as the Pride hit .304 as a team, led by Kamdyn Tenorio (Irvine, Calif.) with a .611 hitting percentage on a season-high 12 kills, plus she was the leader in digs with 13 for her second double-double of the season. Avery Mola (Cheshire, Conn.) contributed nine kills, and Isabella Seccareccio (Medford, Mass.) helped the defensive effort with 12 digs.
There were six ties within the first 20 points of the match as the Saints pulled ahead, 10-9, after a kill by Isabella Marquez and a service ace from Paula Tanguilig. Regis rattled off eight unanswered points to take control of the first set, led by three kills from Grace Fabiano (Greenland, N.H.). The Pride would clinch the opening set on a solo block by Kate Montigny (Shrewsbury, Mass.).
Regis took a 7-3 lead to open the second set, but Emmanuel scored three quick points thanks to two blocks, both involving Madison Sherman, and a kill by Jayda Wallace. The Pride put together a 9-3 scoring run to extend their lead to 16-9 and controlled the rest of the set, closing it out with a kill by Bella Karpicz (Berkley, Mass.).
The first 20 points of the third set included eight ties and seven lead changes, with the Saints opening an 11-9 advantage on a kill by Wallace and a service ace from Payton Stupavsky. The Pride responded with an 11-2 scoring run, led by two kills from Tenorio and two service aces by Kate Julian (Mendon, Mass.). Emmanuel went on a 6-2 scoring run to close to within three points at 22-19, but Regis finished the set and the match with three straight points on a kill by Mola and two Saint attack errors.
Marquez led the Saints with 12 kills and Wallace contributed seven kills in two sets as Kason Huynh dished out 26 assists. Defensively, Sherman led her team at the net with three block assists, and Julia Haight paced the backline with nine digs.
Regis (17-6, 9-2 GNAC) heads to Standish, Maine, Saturday, Oct. 26, for a conference tri-match, first facing Rivier at 3 p.m. before taking on host Saint Joseph's College at 5 p.m. Emmanuel (14-6, 5-3 GNAC) travels to New Haven, Conn., for a GNAC tri-match Friday, Oct. 25, opposing Anna Maria at 5 p.m. and host Albertus Magnus at 7 p.m.
