WINTHROP, Mass. - With Regis College putting together a 3-1 record over the past week, two members of the Pride women's volleyball team repeated as Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly award winners as announced by the league office Monday, Sept. 9.
Ahnasia Mckinney (Chelmsford, Mass.) was named GNAC Setter of the Week for the second straight time and seventh time overall over the past two years. Last Tuesday against Worcester State, Mckinney notched her seventh career triple-double, highlighted by a career-high 17 kills along with 24 assists and 12 digs as the Pride prevailed over the Lancers in five sets.
Friday night, Mckinney helped the Pride sweep Sarah Lawrence College with 22 assists, seven kills, and eight defensive digs. In Saturday's 3-0 victory over Hunter College, she finished with 15 assists, eight digs, and two total blocks, followed by another double-double with 12 assists and 12 digs along with five kills and two more block assists against William Paterson.
Alexandra Rivera (Bristol, Conn.) has been selected GNAC Rookie of the Week once again. In the Worcester State match, she tied her season high with 23 assists, plus she earned eight digs as the Pride defeated the Lancers in five sets.
At Sarah Lawrence Friday night, she came close to a double-double with 10 digs and nine assists, plus she earned two service aces. Saturday, she finished with eight assists in each match, plus she was credited with her first career block assist against Hunter and added two service aces and five digs against William Paterson.
For the season, Mckinney leads the GNAC in total assists with 148 and is third in the league in total kills with 76. She is also one of seven players in Division III with multiple triple-doubles this season. Rivera is fourth in the conference with 111 total assists and tied for fifth in total service aces with 18, earning at least one service ace in every match so far this season.
Regis College (5-3) resumes regional play Tuesday, Sept. 10, with a short drive to face Wellesley College starting at 6 p.m. The Pride will then travel to Northfield, Vt., to open conference action against Norwich Saturday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m., followed by a non-league contest against MCLA at 1 p.m.
