Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Emmanuel

BOSTON – Regis College extended its winning streak to seven matches, including six straight victories within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), as the Pride defeated Emmanuel College, 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-21), Tuesday night in a GNAC women's volleyball contest at Andy Yosinoff Court.

Grace Fabiano (Greenland, N.H.) led the Pride with a season-high 13 kills to go along with four block assists. Ahnasia Mckinney (Chelmsford, Mass.) earned nine kills on 13 attack attempts without an error for a .692 hitting percentage, plus she distributed 17 assists and picked up five digs. Kamdyn Tenorio (Irvine, Calif.) collected six kills, three service aces, and eight digs, and Avery Mola (Cheshire, Conn.) finished with four kills, three service aces, and a match-high 17 digs.

Emmanuel (12-7, 7-4 GNAC) pulled ahead in the first set, 7-6, on a service ace by Kason Huynh, but Regis responded with a 9-1 scoring run. The Saints closed to within four points at 19-15 on a kill by Seana Phillips, but the Pride closed out the opening set with a 6-1 scoring run, led by Mola with a kill plus consecutive service aces and capped by a kill from Mckinney.

Led by Tenorio with a kill and back-to-back service aces, Regis scored the first four points of the second set, but the Saints went on a quick 5-1 scoring run to close to within one point at 7-6. The Pride scored six straight points to extend their lead, but the Saints fought back with a 10-2 scoring run to pull ahead, 19-17. After a kill by Isabella Marquez reestablished the Saint advantage at 22-21, Regis scored four of the final five points of the set, capped by a Tenorio kill.

Fabiano earned two kills and a block assist to help the Pride jump out to a 5-1 lead in the third set. After a kill by Mckinney put Regis ahead 10-5, Emmanuel scored four unanswered points to close to within one point. Fabiano and Kate Montigny (Shrewsbury, Mass.) combined for three kills and two blocks to allow the Pride to open a seven-point lead at 16-9. Four kills by Marquez late in the set brought the Saints within three points at 24-21, but Fabiano closed out the set and the match with a kill.

Marquez finished with nine kills and nine digs, while Huynh collected eight kills, eight assists, and six digs. Brigid Moriarty dished out 18 assists in the contest, and Paula Tanguilig paced the Saint backline with 14 defensive digs.

The six-match conference winning streak is the longest for the Pride as a member of the GNAC, and Regis has now won 15 consecutive sets in league matches, starting that streak after losing the first set against Johnson and Wales Oct. 4 before winning the next three sets for the program's first-ever victory over the Wildcats.
